Arno Hintjens, White Ass European Cowboy, 1999, was made by Imschoot. It’s an artbook which was made for Arno’s fiftieth birthday. The title of the book refers to Le European Cowboy an album of Arno which was released in the same year and to the European Cowboy a song on the album.

There were four different versions of the book.
There were two versions on black vinyl. The first 50 of these black books were signed by Arno. The other copies weren’t numbered nor signed. There were also two versions on red vinyl, of which ten were signed. The other 300 copies weren’t numbered nor signed.
The vinylbooks contain the original labels of the LP’s which influenced Arno’s life and work. There are also two pictures of Arno underneath each label. These give an inside on the personality of Arno as an artist throughout the years. The pictures were made by Danny Willems, a famous photographer and longlasting friend of Arno. There’s also a short note of Arno with each label.
Publishing house Imschoot, founden in 1987, had an international reputation for publishing self-willed and unique artistic books in limited editions. Imschoot published books for Dan Graham, Peter Downsbrough, Lawrence Wiener, John Baldessari, Joseph Kosuth, Walter van Beirendonck, Herman Portocarero, Sol LeWitt and others.
The famous artbookpublishing house of Ghent quit publishing in 2006. But their beautiful famous artbooks, such as ‘White Ass European Cowboy’, still remain.
Soon you will be able to admire this work of art in The Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angels.
